Kathy Rawson
Silver and Enamel Pendants

Artist’s Statement
My work has developed as a dichotomy between private and public.  Many pieces over the last few years have been based on personal experiences.  Generally, the content is not obvious at first glance but once the viewer is drawn into the piece more of myself is revealed.
It has been this action of the physical engagement with the object that has started to drive my art.  The interior spaces are what seem to be private but because they broadcast visual information they transform it to a public space.  I am starting to depart from making my work based on personal experiences, but am striving to retain the same elements of intimacy and tactility by using enamel.   Through the use of enamels, I create seductive quasi landscapes, rich in colour and texture, which lure people into that same type of investigation.
