Reversible Leather Cuffs made from salvaged materials

Artist’s Statement
I am working with recycled leather, fur, lace, plastic, fabrics and snaps to create utilitarian and sculptural body art.  The work is accessory based body gear such as cuffs, neckpieces, and belts with detachable (via the snaps) pockets such as wallets and pouches.  Multi-sizing and the reversibility of each piece makes the work accessible to a wide range of people, not to mention the variety of ways pieces can be worn.  Each work is unique and one of a kind.  Accessory items allow people to show their individuality.  This work is leading into a large personal performance The Experiment of Accessory.  I will wear the same clothes for perhaps a year and document to extreme differences in one outfit by simply changing the accessories.

Biography
I have been living, working and playing in Calgary for the past nine years.  I have completed my third year of my BFA in the fibre and textile department at Alberta College of Art and Design.  For the last three years along side my education I have been working on my own business and product line of wearable art.  The line is currently being sold in six western Canada locations and soon will be expanding to the eastern provinces.  I have been fortunate to look at school as a beginning of my career in the arts.
