Artist’s Statement
This recent body of work is the result of a fascination with material. Paper adds an element of softness, brings color and texture to my work. It has the linear qualities I am always reaching for in my designs and pushes the boundaries of common material used in jewellery fabrication. Combined with precious metals and pearls, this work speaks to my love of detail and ornamentation. There is collaboration between materials that is so contrasting in nature. From the sharp, strong frame of silver to the gentle folds of paper and soft hues of the pearls, the materials combine together to create a unique piece. The untraditional pairing of the precious and non-precious medium challenges the idea of value of material and design. Harmony is found in the balance between the materials to create a wearable and contemporary piece of jewellery. Stylized forms create bold lines in an all silver production line, creating a vast range of pieces that stand together as a completed thought.

Biography
I became interested in jewellery making while traveling in Southeast Asia. During my travels I became fascinated with the act of adornment and returned home motivated to dive deeper into this curiosity. The following fall I became a student at the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC where I studied for 2 years. I then transferred to the Alberta College of Art & Design where I graduated with a BFA in spring of 2007. My work has been exhibited in Europe, the USA and Canada and I recently won an award in Zilberschmuck Gallery’s exhibition Formula for “best utilization of pearls”. I sell my work in seven galleries across Canada and will be attending The One of a Kind Show Toronto for spring 2009. My work has been published in Where Magazine, MAGazine, and is used extensively for the Alberta Craft Council’s advertising.
