Artist’s Statement
“Nature is a vast repository of shape and form, a place of infinite ideas and inspiration” says Anna Clark. From the simple curve of a leaf edge to the velvet touch of a petal, the plant kingdom is where Anna finds inspiration. Unwilling to represent nature with realism, Anna deconstructs her chosen images to present the parts that most capture her imagination.
She brings strength of form into her work, marrying that with surface design and texture to create pieces that are free of overwhelming detail. Anna’s pieces speak of simplicity of shape and elegance of line. Combining copper and silver allows Anna to etch patterns in subtle warm colour while her use of sterling renders it softly gleaming, a tactile discovery.
Biography
Since completing studies at Kootenay School of the Arts, Nelson, British Columbia in 1999, Anna established her studio in nearby Rossland. Further regular workshops, locally and further a field, keep Anna in touch with her fellow jewellery/metalsmiths.
Anna works full-time designing and making studio jewellery. Her work spans limited edition pieces, one of a kind works and commissioned pieces. She also finds time to continually experiment with new materials and techniques. She has exhibited across Canada and internationally and has consistently won awards and grants for her work. She is represented in Canada by INFLUX as well as Metalurge in Toronto and Harbinger Gallery in Waterloo.
