Artist’s Statement
My work currently focuses on simplicity,
precision, and the geometrical form of design. The simplicity of
the designs produces an elegant line and texture from the material.
I reference the most primitive, instinctive reflex of complex architectural
structures. The precision of specific production techniques nurture
and enhance the conservative yet expressive emotion of the design.
Human emotions fluctuate through interaction with visual images which inspires
me to produce contrasting textures and reflections during the final
finishing of my works. I believe the result of the contrast sparks
a special emotional connection between the works and the viewer.
An additional goal of my work is to reinvent commercially valued objects as wearable
fine arts that will be appealing to collectors.
Biography
Caesar Chui was born in Hong Kong. A passion for art and design inspired him from a young age. Shortly after he moved to Canada, he studied at the Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD), graduating from the Jewellery and Metals program in 2000. After leaving ACAD, Caesar received the first place award from the Royal Canadian Mint Jewellery Design Competition in 2001.
Caesar enjoys being an excellent designer just as much as learning every bit of the production process in the studio. During his studies he developed the understanding necessary to work with a variety of techniques and materials, ranging from precious metals to wood and plastic fabrication. Caesar’s designs and fabrications extend from jewellery to furniture and conventional industrial designs. Currently, Caesar is producing his originally designed jewellery in his own studio.
