Artist’s Statement
Jewellery has become for me a method of exploration and means of expression.

There is a magic to small objects. To fully experience a miniature the viewer must establish a closer view and in doing so establishes an intimacy improbable with larger objects. I seek to expand this intimacy by creating refined and sculptural forms that communicate simplicity, elegance, and purpose.

Patterns of containment and nurturing have emerged in my work as I explore the relationship of nested objects. I am intrigued by the ability of a vessel to emphasize beautiful qualities of objects contained. The shape and form of these elements promotes subtle intensity and the interplay of high contrast finishes stimulates visual interest.

I find great inspiration in the journey that unfolds: the transformation of basic elements, through the application of design and effort, into singular precious objects.

Biography
Andrea moved to Calgary in 2000 where she attended night classes at the Alberta College of Art + Design to pursue her interest in wearable art. In 2004 she enrolled full-time in the Jewellery and Metals program, graduating in 2008 a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction. Fostered by formal education, her artistic vision developed alongside her knowledge of technique and appreciation of the form. Andrea is currently establishing a practice as an artist and goldsmith.
