Biography
TANK Jewelry & Beads is a Canadian leader in innovative glass and award winning jewelry techniques.
Located in one of the hippest areas in Toronto, the Distillery District, Tank is home to artists Amy Johnson & Jill Cribbin providing an ideal setting for the creation of exceptional work.
Amy is a graduate from Crafts & Design/Glassblowing at Sheridan Institute. She states frequently, “I have the best job in the world, I get to play with fire and colour all day.” Enthusiasm for her material process combined with a strong desire to challenge the perception of what is seen as precious and wearable today, Amy’s work is stunning, diverse, and unusual. The wearer feels the weight of the piece and it warms to the body, offering a physical experience when worn.
Working in traditional methods, but with a non-conformist approach to jewelry design, Amy is very deliberate in her choices about why she works with glass and silver. The result of this collaboration reveals a modern aesthetic that unites a sophisticated colour palate, an irreverent sense of humour and detailed craftsmanship.
Jill launched herself into the world of glass flameworking ten years ago at an intensive workshop at Urban Glass in Brooklyn, NY. Since then she has studied with numerous recognized beadmakers. Jill finds inspiration collaborating with her Studio Parnter, Amy Johnson and from her studio setting at the Historic Distillery District.
To create modern, wearable jewelry, by using traditional tools & methods. Striving to maintain the balance of individual design with creative collaborative efforts, resulting in a cohesive, seamless line of work.
